When the History Center of Tompkins County outgrew their home on State Street in Ithaca, it became apparent that a new home was needed. When Tompkins Trust Company moved out of their 150 year old headquarters to new digs, it was the perfect location to create a new community space along with other like-minded non-profits, to explore our past, present, and future. When the team came to Iron, we were excited to begin our discovery process with a large committee of stakeholders, and uncover and imagine the possibilities of this new Center. We explored a range of new naming concepts, and once one was selected, we dove straight into the brand design. Being at the ‘center’ of Tompkins County, the center of the Commons, and being a central destination for local history, we landed on a hub, connecting all the areas of the community, and signifying a place where everyone can connect. We then applied the new brand to all their marketing materials, from fundraising presentations, to marketing brochures, interior & exterior wayfinding signage, a large mural, and their new Wordpress website. We were lucky to team up with Tessellate Studios, who designed and built the interior exhibit space, and embraced the new brand in their kiosk and interior designs.
