Pasta Vitto Restaurant & Lounge

Pasta Vitto is a friendly, Italian, family-style restaurant right around the corner from our offices on The Commons in Ithaca, NY. Since Ithaca boasts more restaurants per capita than New York City, it’s an ambitious spot for a new restaurant. Our crew first worked with the Pasta Vitto team to established an interior brand experience for the new space that is casual and down-to-earth, with the vibe of a modern brewery, blended with a nostalgic Verona ristorante.

Type Explorations

We explored a wide range of fun type solutions to help make Pasta Vitto distinctive. Ultimately we all settled on the ‘pi’ symbol embedded in the TT ligature, since pizza would be their signature entree. We fleshed this out with a flexible type system that can easily adapt for a variety of applications from window graphics, menus, website and even large hand painted supergraphics on interior barn wood walls.

Color Palette

Our color palette was simple: traditional red and black, warm stucco gold, and tints of teal that pay homage to the Mediterranean, to create consistency across the variety of interior elements, and make it feel a little like summer on the Italian coast.

“Right out of the gate, and with a short timeline, Iron was able to create a fun and casual vibe for our place that really hit the mark, and felt very different than anything else in Ithaca. That hand painted wall gets a ton of compliments.”

— Pete & Ursula Browning, Ithaca Restaurant Owners

Signage & Swag

To round out their marketing needs, Iron created the menus, matches, coasters and exterior signage, to make the brand experience complete and cohesive.

Responsive, Practical & Easy-to-update Website

The new website was created in Squarespace to make it easy and practical for the owners to update menus and content quickly. The template we used was mobile-first, since it was determined that 92% of the owner’s other restaurants web traffic was coming from mobile devices. Eventually they’ll include take-out orders and a checkout system, all available through Squarespace or third-party plugins.
